Producing classic and high-quality Bourgogne white wines, the Meursault appellation includes 21 first growths such as Les Charmes, Les Perrières and Les Gouttes d'Or. Only 4% of the vines produce red wines, including the wonderful Clos de Mazeray from Domaine Prieur. The red wines also benefit from the Blagny appellation ; depending on their origin, and the white wines may be sold within the Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet appellation.
Main grape varieties : Pinot noir for red wines ; chardonnay for white wines.
Soils : Calcareous marls.
Style of wines :
White wines : Exceptional ageing potential, long-keeping for these full-bodied and well-balanced white wines. Floral and herbal bouquet (fern, linden and white flowers) evolving into notes of hazelnut, dried fruit, honey and butter with age.
Red wines are similar to Blagny and Volnay wines.
