Rare wine - Vintage 1987

Often overshadowed by its 1988 cadet, the 1987 vintage still produced good, virile and structured wines.

Everywhere in France, the quality was average, due to an abundant harvest lacking in maturity.

After Cabernet’s drowning, caused by heavy rainfalls which lasted for two weeks in Bordeaux, 1987 Bordeaux wines turned out to be of low quality : red wines are thin and diluted with a limited ageing potential.

Only the right bank, meaning Saint-Emilion and Pomerol, produced good wines with a fruity and full-bodied taste with Château Clinet and Château Ausone.

Rhône and Champagne, however, produced a weak vintage. Côte Rôtie produced some of its best wines.

Bourgogne produced a good quality, quite uniform vintage. With reasonable fatiness and depth, the wine structure suggests elegance and sweet tannins. A few bottles stand out : Joseph Roty and Domaine Dujac’s grands crus, for example, were very successful.

For white wines, beautiful bottles were produced in the Chablisien thanks to perfect weather conditions.
