1983 was very successful and produce a great vintage, both quantitatively and qualitatively. 1983’s wines represent an above average vintage.

This 1983 vintage reached a new harvest record in Champagne thanks to many exquisite, and thus rare, successes. They are, nowadays, expensive and very hard to manage.
Bourgogne suffered from a temperamental weather : hail storms in may, followed by a very warm and wet summer which caused substantial losses during harvest. However, its fruity wines managed to find a good balance with time.
1983 red wines from the Rhône valley are abundant with good quality.
Sauternes wines are remarkable, with a smooth and honeyed taste.
