Despite complicated weather conditions, the 1961 vintage was quite successful.
In Bordeaux, a torrential rain stopped the harvest, which led to less concentrated wines. However, most of the Bordeaux wines produced remain surprisingly delicious with great texture, beautiful finesse and excellent ageing qualities.
In Bourgogne, The hard april frosts and july hailstorms almost produced a bad quality vintage. Consequently, the white wines are quite weak and the reds lack character and expression as well as their usual ageing qualities.
In Champagne, the 1961 vintage is high quality though the quantities are limited. 1961 champagne is very hard to come by.
Rhône and Loire both get honorable mentions. Alsace produced wines with great ageing potentials such as rieslings.
The 1961 vintage produced excellent bottles : Lafite Rothschild, Latour, Margaux, Petrus, Climens, Cheval Blanc, Giscours, Yquem or Mission Haut Brion will be perfect to help you celebrate your happiest events.
