Every year, wine lovers eagerly look out for the new vintage to come. However, 2012 was somewhat mistreated by temperamental weather conditions. Winter triggered an early start for merlot but heavy spring rains lasted until July and ruined any chance of producing a good wine. Some winemakers had to work very hard in order to preserve their vines. August, however, brought a milder weather and made it possible to salvage healthy grapes after a fastidious sorting, in sometimes extreme conditions. September ended the wine making process and winemakers managed to produce a very decent wine.
2012 turned out to be a very surprising vintage :
- In Bordeaux, beautiful red wines with present but supple tannins,
- In Vallée du Rhône, a well-balanced wine with an exceptional aromatic potential,
- In Bourgogne, bad weather reduced production,
- In Côte de Nuits, structured, fleshy and full grapes.
Cheers!
