Cultivating vines since 1720, the Protheau family is a major figure of the Bourgogne viticultural landscape.
In 1905, François Protheau started to expand the estate by providing a needed commercial boost.
He became a wine merchant-producer, a work status which he created, and was able to acquire the famous Château d'Estroyes, Clos des Corvées and Clos des Noiterons, formerly known as Clos de la Fauconnière, in 1930.
Following François Protheau's death, his son Maurice becomes manager and keeps expanding the estate, from 35 ha in 1965 to 70 ha today.
Joined by the newest generation, the Protheau family stops their trading business in order to fully commit to wine-growing.
Domaine François Protheau is now the property of Maison Béjot, owner of Maison Moillard and Maison Corton-André.
