Listrac-Médoc
Renowned appellation in the 18th century, producing 375 hl of red wines exclusively, which grew back in popularity in the 20th century. Its Bordeaux wines are an excellent value for money, produced from a vineyard of 665 ha, located close to the Haut Médoc border on three terraces, sheltered from dominant winds by a large pine forest, allowing for a slow and consistent grape maturation.
Among the most renowned castles are Château Fourcas-Dupré and Fourcas-hosten, as well as the famous Château Clarke.
Main grape varieties : Merlot (mostly), cabernet-sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot.
Soils : Gravel, clay-limestone
Style of wines : dark color with violet hints. Intense nose with notes of red fruits, balsamic aromas, spices, vanilla and toasted. In the mouth, powerful and harmonious with a beautiful volume and tannic force, which will improve with age and result in a round and elegant Bordeaux wine.
Moulis-en-Médoc
Smallest appellation of the Médoc with 600 ha, producing 34 750 hl of red wines. It spreads over a narrow 12-km strip inland, west of Margaux. Sheltered from the wind by surrounding pine trees, the great wines produced are an excellent value for money, like Château Chasse-spleen, Château Poujeaux and Château Maucaillou, and benefit from a micro-climate which is favorable to a good grape maturation.
Main grape varieties : Cabernet-sauvignon, merlot.
Soils : Gravel, limons, limestone
Style of wines : deep ruby color with dark reflections for these fine, powerful and complex wines. Rich nose with fragrances of ripe and stewed red fruits, notes of toasted bread, liquorice, violette, humus and undergrowth. In the mouth, harmonious and elegant with round and velvety tannins.
