Rare wine - Vintage 1988

Despite the unpleasantness of the unforgettable 1987 rainfalls, 1988 was an excellent vintage.

Following a cold and damp semester, the flowering period was very slow. The 1988 summer was particularly hot, which led to a perfect maturation of the grapes.

In Bordeaux, winemakers were afraid to wait to harvest, which caused a lack of maturity in Cabernet Sauvignon. However, red Bordeaux wines are firm, well-structured and virile with a significant ageing potential.

Bourgogne also suffered from a late blooming period due to humidity and cold in may. The production was quite low but the maturity was perfect for red wine.

Champagne suffered from bad summer weather but still managed to produce good champagne with a light hue of pale gold.

The weather was kind to the Rhône region, with ideal climatic conditions, very few rainfalls and hail.

Among this vintage’s best bottles are : Côte-Rôtie, Graves, Hermitage and Saint-Joseph.

To find a good 1988 wine, try Pessac Léognan.. Red or white, they are particularly nice and will delight your palate.
