After a modest 1984 vintage, 1985 managed to make us forget the disastrous consequences caused by the weather to its predecessor.
The 1985 wines are exceptional and their quality is unparalleled. Even though the winter was freezing, the weather offered perfect conditions for the rest of the year.
The warmth of september in Bordeaux helped produce great wine. Red wines are quite enjoyable, with a slight acidic taste.
The right bank produced a good vintage with high prices, which levelled out afterwards.
Bourgogne produced deep, mature, rich and well-balanced wines, full of character.
Champagne and Rhône also produced a great 1985 vintage : very interesting and appealing champagnes and wines.
Sauternes, however, did not get so lucky and suffered from a very dry weather in october.
Almost every french regions offered a successful 1985 vintage. Here are a few examples of exceptional bottles : Côte Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint Julien, Margaux or Pauillac will be the perfect bottles to celebrate a happy event.
