Following the excellent 1978 wines, the 1979 vintage produced fine long-ageing wines.
Despite the coldeness of the year and the dry summer in Bordeaux, harvests were quite successful and produced good wines, both quantitatively and qualitatively. It was the most significant harvest since 1934. On the right bank, Pomerol and Saint Emilion managed to produce rich and tannic wines with a good ageing potential. White wines, however, lack maturity.
Excellent vintage in Champagne, 1979 produced excellent wines thanks to great weather conditions.
In Bourgogne, storms led to deterioration of the wine quality. Bourgogne wines, especially reds, are pale and weak. A few bottles stand out and were quite successful : Domaine de la Romanée Conti for example.
Celebrate a happy event or offer a good bottle of wine with the 1979 vintage. Here is our selection of the best bottles from 1979 : Château Palmer, Château Pichon, Margaux, La Mission Haut Brion, Gruaud Larose and Petrus.
