Bordeaux produced a decent vintage despite the complicated weather conditions. A cold and rainy winter in february reduced harvest. The wine is strong and austere with a high acidity level and an excellent ageing potential.
In Bourgogne, the weather was quite cold and damp. Bourgogne wines are flavorful and acidic. This strong acidity promotes a gleaming tonicity and good ageing potential.
Champagne produced a mediocre 1957 vintage. Alsace, however, produced good wines which age quite nicely.
The 1957 vintage represents a good year for Vallée du Rhône, despite a small crop.
