After a stormy month of july, a freezing august and rainy september, the harvest came out very weak. This vintage wasn’t successful for any french region. The red Bordeaux wines are still fine and quite charming. The white Bordeaux wines are also of good quality.
Bourgogne struggles to stand out due to a difficult flowering season and a few hail storms in november. The wine is however still interesting.
If Champagne reached a production record the past year, 1951 wasn’t as fruitful. Some bottles are excellent anyway.
In Vallée du Rhône, the wines are more or less structured with varying ageing potentials.
Alsace produced some nice, concentrated wines. Loire’s wines are quite weak.
Even if this 1951 vintage wasn’t very successful, the bottles remain precious and unique. If you wish to purchase a beautiful bottle for a special event, here are some of the most successful bottles from this vintage : Lafite Rothschild Magnum, Château Latour, Château d’Yquem, Richebourg and Clos Vougeot.
First growth Bordeaux. Pauillac appellation. Bottled at the Château. Prestigious wine.
