After 2003's heat wave, 2004 represents a certain return to normal. Sunny spring and balanced rain meant a generous harvest. The heavy rains that ended this hot summer casted doubts but they were quickly lifted by a sunny september.
2004 kept its promises : this abundant vintage produced a well-balanced wine with a very delicate taste. After a few months, it unveiled its full potential, revealing present and future gustatory qualities. The delicacy of certain Crus quickly drove them to the top.
In Bourgogne, white wine was particularly successful with its fresh floral notes. Though they are not long-keeping wines, red wines’ herbal tones give them a beautiful quality.
In Vallée du Loire, the wet summer altered the production slightly but Chinon and Saumur-Champigny still hold their own brilliantly.
If 2003 and 2005’s Bordeaux vintages are relatively pricy, 2004 provides lovely opportunities for wine lovers. More affordable and still high-quality, 2004’s best Crus Classés will delight wine enthusiasts.
